VPHA Correspondence - "Many hands make light work"

The email below was sent today to 30 potential VPHA co-authors as a check-point to see, who we will send out early ALD publications for reading and commenting to finalize the VPHA reading (we are now about 40% done).

If you read this message and have not yet been in our list of prospective co-authors, this would be a very good time to join the effort, also listed as a collaboration at european-ald.net. For sharing a bit of your time and brainpower with us, you will get to be an author of the poster presentation at ALD 2016. Please indicate your interest e.g. in an email sent to info@ vph-ald.com. Please tell in your message the languages in which you can read publications and optionally your ALD-related speciality and other relevant info.

Everyone with some ALD knowledge is welcome to join and help to get this important work completed. We already have participants from Europe, North America and Asia. It would be nice to have someone involved from Australia and South America, where I know that people are working with ALD. Perhaps there is already someone working with ALD in Africa, too?

Title: VPHA question - "Many hands make light work"

Dear ____,

We are preparing to actively send out papers for reading in VPHA (see the earlier message copied below). As you have earlier expressed your interest in participating in the VPHA reading, we would like to include you in the list of people who will get papers. However, before doing this, we would like to re-confirm your interest in participation.

With the pre-assumption that you will participate, your name was added (in gray, as it is not confirmed) with some info on language / optional speciality info in the open Google file VPHA-author-info-update, 2nd tab (reading-distribution DRAFT). The current info is copied below:

Name (first name last name, alphabetical order on the basis of last name)
Languages
Optional: speciality? DRAFT

Please take small action, preferably during this week (preferably latest 10.4.)
A) To confirm your participation in VPHA, please check your info and reply to this email or send an email to info@ vph-ald.com. Let us know if the info should be updated. Or, if nothing needs to be changed, we also appreciate an email stating that you have checked the info and that the information is correct.
B) To be removed from the list and not to participate in the VPHA reading, please let me know by reply email (or an email to info@ vph-ald.com), and I will remove you from the “prospective authors” list. This will mean that you will also not get VPHA status updates by email in the future. You can still follow the progress of VPHA easily if you want as we do everything openly, by following http://aldhistory.blogspot.fi or the LinkedIn ALD History group.

We are now about 40% done with the reading & commenting work. Well before ALD 2016, this number should approach 100%. As they say in English: “Many hands make light work”. With a large number of people each contributing a little bit, we can get this large and significant effort done. Your contribution would be much appreciated.

Best regards,
Riikka Puurunen, voluntary VPHA coordinator

Subject: VPHA publication distribution - author info update (5.4.)

Dear VPHA co-authors and prospective co-authors:

This update continues on a topic raised in the latest VPHA status update (31.3., point 2, #2).

To get the VPHA reading done, we are planning to distribute the remaining publications for VPHA co-authors and prospective co-authors for reading. The information of authors and publications is being paired in an open Google spreadsheet called VPHA-author-info-update; the info is in the 2nd tab called “reading-distribution” (link is embedded in the name and you can always find it through http://vph-ald.com/VPHAopenfiles.html). The file is open for everyone to view and comment.

To pair authors and publications to distribute for reading, for each co-author, we list
(Name, of course)
Languages in which one can read publications (the current list is the first draft and probably misses a lot of language information)
Optional: information on a person’s area of specialism
Optional: knowledge of specific types of papers one wishes to get (some wishes can be accommodated, but it will probably not be possible to accommodate all)

All VPHA co-authors: Please check the list for your own part. To update your description, please send an email to us. You can either by reply to this email or email  info@ vph-ald.com. If nothing needs to be changed, we also appreciate an email stating that you have checked the info and that the information is correct.

Prospective co-authors: Please in a return email (i) confirm your willingness to participate in the VPHA reading & commenting effort and thereby to be included in the list under consideration (VPHA-author-info-update, 2nd tab), and (ii) let us know the languages in which you can read papers (and optionally other information), as described above. Would you not wish to receive further VPHA-related emails, you can tell that in a return email, too.

I hope that we get the authors and publications paired during this week, so that we can send material for reading next week. Reading should then significantly progress during the next weeks. We will have a check-point in May (date to be defined), to see how much reading is still to be done. By that time, the voting procedure should be clear, too.

With best regards,
Riikka Puurunen, VPHA coordinator
